AFP completes 18 public works projects in ComVal

MONKAYO, Compostela Valley -- Field engineers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) initially completed 18 barangay public works projects in the hinterlands of Compostela Valley province in Southern Mindanao.

In its report to Lt. Gen. Cardozo M. Luna, area command chief of the AFPs Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMincom) based in Davao Gulf, the 52nd Engineering Brigade stated that barangay public works projects under the governments "Kalayaan Barangay Program" (KBP). The work was started by the 534th Engineering Battalion last year.

The engineering unit of the AFP is recommending the improvement of the road network traversing ComVal province and Davao del Norte as the next KBP priority project.

The engineering unit reported that a total of 11 waterworks facilities under the KBPs Water System Projects (Batch 2) and about seven PGMA school buildings (Batch 3) were completed.

The combined public works projects were estimated to cost around R10.9 million.

They said water works program was undertaken in the barangays of Mabini, Pantukan, Maco, Mawab, Compostela and Monkayo in ComVal, while the school buildings were built in the barangays of Talaingod and Kapalong in Davao del Norte province.

Lt. Col. Alfredo Soriano, commanding officer of 534th Engineering Battalion, said the civilian populace residing in the barangays of these water works projects can now enjoy drinking potable water, while the problems of the congested school buildings in the remote barangays of Kapalong and Talaingod were solved with the construction of new classrooms.
